    Description

    A new law came into place in October 2018 with regard to the Duty of Care to Dogs 

    This course is aimed at Canine Professionals in roles including but not limited to: 

    •  Boarding kennels for dogs 
    •  Daycare for dogs 
    •  Breed dogs 
    •  Provide home boarding for dogs 

    You now must ensure you have the correct level of canine first-aid training. Our training offers credibility and also meets the legal requirements set for these professions. 

    The course contents is: 

    • Health & Safety and Hygiene
    • The role and aims of the canine first aider
    • The primary survey & first responses
    • Understanding your dog's behaviours
    • Canine first aid kits & improvised 
    • Competency in demonstration in finding a pulse
    • Competency in demonstration in CPR and rescue breaths
    • Competency in demonstrating the recovery position 
    • Competency in demonstrating dealing with serious bleed
    • Competency in demonstrating making a makeshift muzzle
    • Dealing with dog bites to dogs and humans 
    • Dealing with stick injuries
    • Competency in demonstrating dealing with a choking dog
    • Recognition and treatment of shock 
    • Electrocution, both high voltage and domestic
    • Recognition and treatment for seizures
    • Recognition and treatment of heat stroke
    • Recognising and treatment for poisoning
    • Recognition and treatment of burns
    • Recognition and the understanding of dogs in hot cars and the law 
    • Understanding both wet & dry drowning
    • Recognising and understanding signs and symptoms of stomach torsion in dogs

    Prerequisites

    All learners are expected to:

    Demonstrate practical skills, showing confidence and competence for assessment purposes.

    Complete a muti choice assessment paper showing confidence and competence for theoretical knowledge.
